It’s almost new year!! I can’t believe it. I had a lovely Christmas with the family, of course there was some arguing but there always is when we get together. I got really nice presents and generally had a good time. I updated my blog talking about what to expect in 2012, there’s going to be some changes, it’s growing and I’m really looking forward to seeing how that works out. I love it that more people want to get involved and share their views. I went to my friend’s 18th birthday party Thursday night, quite a few of my friends were there and we had a really good time. I hate dancing and so does one of my other friends but somehow by the end of the night we were both dancing as well.

For New Year I’m having a few friends round to my house in the evening for pre drinks then we’re off to town, it’s going to be a good night I can tell. I normally blog about disability related stuff but there really hasn’t been much going on at the moment, at least nothing that particularly concerns me. It’s almost a relief actually as it’s meant the holidays have been free for me to just sleep and mess about, which of course I love just as much as writing

I’ve only recently got internet access back which is why I haven’t been writing on here. I’ve been staying with my dad since Friday when I broke up from school for the Christmas holidays. I’m enjoying the break from home and getting to do pretty much whatever I want, I’ve also seen a lot of my family which has been kind of nice.

During the day while he’s at work I’ve been reading. I just finished the Horse Whisperer which is by Nicholas Evans. It was a brilliant book until the very ending which was utterly terrible. I’ve only just finished it and still feel incredibly disappointed, it had so much promise but the author wasted it completely. So although I’ve been feeling great all week I feel a bit rubbish now. I guess I have to decide what to read next.

I’m so glad it’s nearly the holidays. School has been ok, but I’m getting more and more sure that it’s not what I want. I want to go to college and study sports science, it’s combining two things that I love and will hopefully lead to the kind of career I’d like. Although the subjects I take are interesting I don’t want a job involving them. I guess you could say I’ve learned that I should go with how I feel and not do what other people want me too just to please them.

I didn’t update yesterday because I was at a goalball tournament. If you don’t know anything about it goalball is a sport designed for the visually impaired. There are 3 players on each team with a maximum of 3 substitutes per team. You have to stop the ball getting into your goal and score as many goals as you can against the opposing team. Every player has to wear eyeshades to make it equal and the ball has bells in it so that you can hear it. Unlike other sports you don’t move around the whole court, instead staying within a certain distance of your goal. It might sound easy but it really isn’t and you have to watch out for penalties too!

The team I was in came 4th and the other team from York came second, so it was a great result for the club. Unfortunately I can’t go to next weeks training session which is the last one before Christmas, but I will be going back in January.

Hi everyone! I’m really happy to be guest blogging here for the next month or so, I hope you enjoy it as much as I will.

This first post is going to be more of an introduction, so you get to know me a little better.

My name is Holly and I’m 17-years-old. I live in the UK and keep a blog here and hope you will take a look at it. I have been blind since birth as I was born with a genetic condition called Leber’s congenital amaurosis which affects your retina as well as a number of other things. I am almost totally blind although I still have some light perception. I currently attend a mainstream school although I was at a school for the blind for 5 years so I have a good understanding of both setups. I blog quite a lot about my visual impairment however I also discuss things like reading and the novel I have almost finished!

I’ll be updating every day so check back often to see what I’ve got to talk about.
